Review #12174 about “QuickCam Orbit/Sphere MP”
Author: Professer X
Webcam: QuickCam Orbit/Sphere MP
Rating: Poor (2 out of 5)
Date:
Advantages of the webcam:
quality rating 24 PTZ - however is no longer supported Is still functional Picture is clear, but a little noisy in spots, but don't move around too much or it gets blurry. Low light is actually pretty decent!
Disadvantages of the webcam:
Support dropped suddenly and unexpectedly by Logitech on Windows 10 OS. May cause brief micro-freezing while using OBS with games even with a powerful CPU. advertised resolution 1.3MP tested resolution 0.59 MP advertised FPS 30 tested FPS 7
Author’s comment:
In its day, this was an amazingly cool Webcam. I used to love the PTZ, and it was originally packaged with apps with cool special effects that I actually used. Sadly everything was abandoned by Logitech and will not function on Windows 10. It was replaced with nothing; it is an abandoned product. I suppose I should be happy that I can get this to work at all, so that's a bit cool. I tenaciously keep trying to use this, even though just using the cam on the HTC Vive as a web cam generally produces better results. I get a good impression from an engineering perspective. It feels like the designers put some heart into this product. It feels more like Logitech as a company just lost interest in selling these. Perhaps they lacked software talent to bridge the windows 10 transition and decided that abandonment was a more practical option than hiring skilled programming talent. If you can obtain this cam for free, it might be worth it. It still looks cool and if your expectations are not high, it gets the job done (if you can get it to work). Almost any modern non-logitech camera is likely to provide superior performance and support, so if you are paying money focus your target toward a company more likely to support their product line for future compatibility.
