Review #137927 about “v4l2loopback”

Webcam: v4l2loopback
Rating: Excellent (5 out of 5)
Date:

Advantages of the webcam:
Share screen or apps from GNU/Linux even if a website doesn't have that functionality.

Disadvantages of the webcam:
Requires using the commandline to setup. One command to install the needed software: apt install v4l2loopback-dkms. One command to make sure the kernel module is loaded (may not be necessary): modprobe v4l2loopback And one very long command to convert the image on your screen into data for the fake video camera: ffmpeg -probesize 100M -framerate 5 -f x11grab -video_size 1280x720 -i :0.0+0,0 -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt yuv420p -f v4l2 /dev/video2 (Your fake camera may show up at /dev/video1 or /dev/video0 depending upon how many real cameras you have).

Author’s comment:
May not work with Chromium based browsers without trickery.
