Webcam Test

Review #137941 about “v4l2loopback”

Webcam: v4l2loopback
Rating: Excellent (5 out of 5)
Date:

Advantages of the webcam:
Let's me set up a virtual webcam that captures from my screen or from any program. For example, I can write my own face-warping routine, have it read from my real webcam and write to v4l2loopback.

Disadvantages of the webcam:
Requires an "out-of-tree" kernel module and a command line setup: sudo apt install v4l2loopback-dkms ffmpeg sudo modprobe v4l2loopback exclusive_caps=1 \ max_width=4096 max_height=4096 \ card_label="Oovideo Metamorphoses" \ video_nr=42 ffmpeg -framerate 15 -f x11grab \ -video_size 1280x720 -i :0.0+0,0 \ -vcodec rawvideo -pix_fmt yuv420p \ -f v4l2 /dev/video42

Author’s comment:
The "quality rating" is misleading for this camera.
