Advantages of the webcam:
Cheap way to obtain a 'GoPro' type device with waterproof housing for 20 Pounds Sterling. Images are generally quite sharp.
Disadvantages of the webcam:
Quite noticeable 'barrel' type distortion in the image at short focal lengths.

I'd already bought a Genius camera for the laptop. Pity I didn't do more thorough research!
