Advantages of the webcam:
Compact; ideal for small spaces such as 3D printer housings or terrariums. Works well in low light. Can come with very wide angle (130 degree) lens.
Disadvantages of the webcam:
Formats are YUY2 and MJPEG only. Colours have low saturation and no control available with module circuitry.
Author’s comment:
Ideal for my purpose (isopod terrarium) and actually had to replace stock lens with less wide-angle from RasPi camera (110 degrees).
