Advantages of the webcam:
It works, with some fiddling. Under $50 on Amazon.
Disadvantages of the webcam:
Usable raw resolution is only 640x480. Low frame rate (20 fps) on highest resolution MJPEG stream (1920x1080).
Author’s comment:
Petty poorly designed, clearly the result of botched reverse engineering. Pretty much every advertised claim for this device was a lie.
